Weekend Away
Now that I have composed my thoughts on being white, I can go back and reflect on my relaxing weekend up north. The highlights of the weekend included reading 100 pages in my commentary on Isaiah, planting 9 trees with Laura and her Dad, eating wonderful food and spending quality time with Laura’s family.
In this picture, Laura’s dad climbed up on a railing to take a shot of us in a 2-person hammock on the deck. You can see it was a relaxing weekend for us. We got back in the early afternoon on Sunday and let the birds out for a bit. I called my dad to thank him for watching them and – surprise! – he bought a car this week.
My dad bought a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Limited convertable, with manual transmission. He’s been looking for a car for a long time, and it’s not like him to make a quick decision about cars. I’m sure he put a lot of thought into this purchase. The performance specs for the car are similar to my 2001 Eclipse coupe, so I’m sure he will be pleased with it as a touring car. I bet some heads will turn at their church when he and my mom roll in next week, if he can convince her to ride in it.
One of the incidental but nonetheless very exciting things about the new car is that my dad has expressed an interest in “fulfilling his duty” to teach his sons how to drive stick – and now he can do it. I had been trying to get a manual transmission when I bought my Eclipse, but the problem was that neither Laura nor I could drive one. Anyhow, I’m looking forward to some father-son-car time.
